So I came home last night to a very overpowering smell of solvent (like white spirit) in my flat. Have had the windows open but still quite stinky today. Is anyone else on Kirkdale (on the Tesco side of the road) experiencing anything? It's making me quite ill and a bit concerned as I'm 8 months pregnant.
I've phoned Environmental Health at Lewisham but they haven't had any other reports. I'm wondering if there's been a chemical spill or something dumped down a drain.

(without causing you alarm or distress)
It sounds to me it may be a burnt out electricity cable which runs to/from a small cooling unit nearby.
Try reporting the location of the smell to UK Power Networks on 0800 028 0247 or your electrical energy supplier.

Re: Solvent smell on Kirkdale
Hi there, thanks for taking time to reply. After a bit of detective work between me and my neighbours, it turns out to be related to Syd's Vintage (the new pop-up taking over from Pen and Gravy) painting/varnishing their floor with some sort of strong solvent on that day. I still can't understand how so much of it got into my place (I'm talking eye-watering, severe headache and sore throat inducing), but with two days of ventilation it's almost gone away and it shouldn't be an ongoing problem.
