Does anyone know what will be built in the large open space opposite Wellbeing?
Believe in used to be a Blinds warehouse.
Perhaps Waitrose at last.
New Space opposite Wellbeing
Re: New Space opposite Wellbeing
It was a printer (Peters I believe) before Nickells sunblinds bought it in 1981. It was sold in 2006. Nickells are now A25 awnings and they are down in Caterham.
It was going to be a Tesco according to some plans I saw and redeveloped but apparently, rumour has it, that a live work place has been built where it shouldn't in Venner Road, which is why we have lost a potential bar/restaurant to Tesco and will have a large, derelict empty space for quote some time in the middle of the high street. I'm sure if the owner (Mr Akram who owned now 24?) would want the local community to come up with some great ideas for how to use this space.
The above is all hearsay, so apologies if it isn't correct.
It's a large space, wouldn't it make a great market in the high street?
Or an outdoor theatre space?
Or a car park?
Pocket park?
Place to grow vegetables?
Playground?
Sculpture gallery?

Leaving aside what may or may not be the facts in this case, why should there being a live/work unit somewhere make a difference?leenewham wrote:It was going to be a Tesco according to some plans I saw and redeveloped but apparently, rumour has it, that a live work place has been built where it shouldn't in Venner Road, which is why we have lost a potential bar/restaurant to Tesco and will have a large, derelict empty space for quote some time in the middle of the high street.
Re: New Space opposite Wellbeing
Because it's built over some of the land that was to be part of the development, illegally as i understand, so there is a planning dispute that may take a long time to sort out.
Re: New Space opposite Wellbeing
Do you mean someone is squatting on someone else's land, or has just built something without asking planning permission on their own? PM if you preferleenewham wrote:Because it's built over some of the land that was to be part of the development, illegally as i understand, so there is a planning dispute that may take a long time to sort out.
Re: New Space opposite Wellbeing
I'm just posting what I've heard from various sources Tim, I don't know the full details. Hopefully someone with more knowledge that I will fill in the details.

The space is known as 22a - 24 Sydenham Road, SE26 5QW and Conservation Area Consent was given for the demolition of the B2 buildings that were on the land at the end of 2009.
I have searched the planning application web site as I know the construction of a part one/part four storey building incorporating 475sqm ground floor commercial floor space (A1/A2) and upper floor residential accommodation comprising 9 units (8, two bedroom and 1, one bedroom self-contained flats) including associated amenity space and a meadow to the rear was granted but can't see when.
