Siverdale Hall Playground - Event 16th March

Post by Tim Lund »

Silverdale Hall is 8 Silverdale, near the old sorting office, and I have just been asked to post here about its new playground, which is coming soon. The event this coming Saturday is a "volunteer day and spring celebration", from 11:00AM-5:00PM.
You are warmly invited to help with final renovation & gardening jobs before the playground & community garden is officially opened

Refreshments & light lunch provided (Turkish bread, hummus, salad etc.)

You will need strong shoes & work clothes. We will provide gloves & tools

Bring a perennial plant/flower or bulbs from your garden to plant please

Some of the tasks
  • Sweeping leaves/earth & adding to compost heap
  • Assembling a low, raised, railway-sleeper bed & lining with polythene & carpet, and filling with homemade compost from the giant compost boxes
  • Small fence repairs with hammer & nails
  • Lifting paving & weeding
  • Filling an existing raised bed with compost & planting up
  • Sowing seeds - runner beans, (& prayers for no more frost)
  • Collecting rubbish
  • Pruning thorny blackberries behind raised beds keeping a “leader”
  • Crushing rubble for small hole repairs
  • Carpentry repairs to compost boxes (drill & screw & nail work)
  • Planting flowers in plant tubs on patio
  • Cleaning tables & help with refreshments
  • Raking level the woodchip in the sleeper play area
  • Clearing & packing down
Older children are accepted under parent’s careful supervision

Quick bump - another chance to meet people locally, and help make a difference to the community - help finish off the good work I saw these young men helping with earlier this week
