The first of the Christmas event was very successful, thanks in part to an enchanting Santa's grotto created by Sue Riley, had great work by Ilse Towler (many thanks).

Sunday 13th January 2013: Friends of Sydenham Community Library are having a workday on - to put the library back into shape after the fun of Santa's grotto; to tidy it up, maybe paint some walls. Please come if you can, any time between 11AM and 4PM, bringing appropriate clothing and equipment. Paint provided.

If you are interested in volunteering at Sydenham Community Library please contact Christine Masters, the new library manager, on 0208-778-1753

We missed the Christmas thing but went down there this morning for some kids books. They were still tidying up from the weekend festivities and kindly gave my 3 year old two leftover Santa pressies... really good books - one happy child! Very kind of them.

My son did point out that he thought the ceiling was falling down - is the building being revamped at all?

Hi,

Suzee - I am glad my staff and volunteers were so good to your boy. Regarding your question about a revamp. Last year we had the roof repaired, which was my biggest challenge because there were leeks in the main library and none of the rooms upstairs were usable. Now the roof is fixed, we are starting to do works on the building, a few rooms upstairs are now usable again and I have just had quotes to do the following, which will be done in the first quarter of this year:

Cafe to be installed.
Fix the hanging wall paper on the ceiling
Fix the holes in the ceilings
pull down the tarpaulin and this is where the cafe will be and the windows will shine through into the library.
Fix the corner of the children's area, where there is damp plaster.

I would like to thank everyone involved in Sydenham Library for everything that has been achieved, it has been amazing and I can not wait for another fantastic year.

Regards
