Provision for bike stands on the new high street?
Can anyone direct me to the plans for the new Sydenham high street improvements that show they have thought to include places to park and lock bicycles? I visited the book shop today and where the pavement looks to have been upgraded and widened there appears to be no provision for bikes. Surely this aspect hasn't been overlooked has it?

I"ve added links on this thread for the high street, you should find all you need there:

Thanks for those links.
However I only saw reference to secure bike 'posts' on Sydenham Approach - near the rail station. I couldn't see any sign of bike posts near Sydenham DIY or Blue Mountain, near Cobbs Corner. There were some there before works started; have been removed; and have not been replace 'so far'. |There's currently nowhere to lock a bike up if you want to visit these retailers.
Have I misread the diagrams?

Thanks for that leenewham , as stated there only appears to be provision at the station, which is great but if Lewisham council want to encourage the use of low/no carbon transport (and they do)then why aren't bike stands to be located up and down the high street? At the moment the only bike stands that I can think of are located outside the co-op.Are they staying ? I have emailed the contact for the works (jim.stacy@jbriney.co.uk ) who appear to be the contractor. I wonder if there is a Lewisham Council contact for this project?

I find that a long-ish locking cable does the same job, around any convenient lamp post, leenewham wrote:Aren't there cyclehoops in the high street on the lamposts?

Thats true there are one or two hoops attached to street furniture currently along the whole high street, and currently having to lock my bicycle around a tree or lampost is obviously a makeshift solution but it isn't particularly convient as a tree or lampost will not necessarily hold a bicycle stably, there is always a danger of the bike swinging round & falling over and creating a hazard to pedestrians or geting damaged by parking cars. Proper provision for bicycles up and down a high street should be a no brainer these days for any street planner, lets hope Lewisham have not messed up on this one.

I noticed this week that there are LOTS of cycle racks being installed in the new paving, especially in the areas where it has been significantly widened. Looking good.

I chaired a meeting this week attended by Tom Henry and Bavan from Highways and members of the Sydenham Society to review progress. We discussed the cycle racks and focused on the space outside the Post Office to place the racks in front of the change of levels. From memory there are cycle racks to go back on Kirkdale and there will be cycle racks by The Greyhound as this is one of the planning conditions.

I too was pleased to see the bike racks on the high Street the other day, that is great news.
I suppose it would be curmudgeonly of me to say they didn't look like very high quality ones in terms of their robustness.
