Glad you enjoyed that Mary.
It's hard to say what the special formula is for good music/lyrics be it clever or just
plainly good to the ear. Some music moves me and some doesn't for whatever reason.
Music can be very mood changing / provoking and emotive but we'll probably never
completely understand why. ]
This is why I have very varied tastes in music and will listen to almost anything once
or twice (who knows it may be very good?)..

Some great stuff in this thread, and I love it all, from King Crimson to Jesus and Mary Chain, via Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Glen Campbell and Hendrix.

There is a brilliant version of September Song by Ian McCulloch of Echo and The Bunnymen, and Bryan Ferry did a great version too. One of my all time favourite tracks.

Got the latest Steve Hackett album over the weekend - a double, on which he has 're-done' his favourite Genesis tracks.

Bit of an odd one really - he's re-done the whole of Supper's Ready, and it is nowhere near as good as the original, and the same applies to Fly on a Windshield/Broadway Melody, which is slightly better.

The Musical Box is pretty good - but I think its the vocals that let them all down (how can you improve on Gabriel?)

Dont know if there are any old Genesis heads on here, but would be love to know if anyone else has heard it.

Steve Hackett needs to be carefull that he doesn't just become a Genesis tribute act!

I'm no Genesis head but make you right about the vocals, Gabriel is missing, nuff said!

It is indeed the Genesis Revisited 2 - and you're right, a lot of it sounds like a tribute band - although, ironically, not as good as Musical Box.

Apart from a couple of alright tracks, Genesis were crap after Gabriel left.

Trick of the tail wasn't a bad album, I think it was written with Gabriel in mind but agree Collins ruined that band in the end.

A seasonal item. I heard a snatch on the radio of some Americans singing 'Away in a manger' to a tune unknown to me. I discover that the tune we normally sing here (by W. J. Kirkpatrick) is also American (as are the words), but that in the States the most popular setting is in fact a slightly older one, by James Murray , called 'Mueller.' Here it is - quite attractive, I thought.

As Christmas has become increasingly taken over by 'The Man', I'm surprised carols havent been hijacked by the corporates.

That would be an ideal carol to rename 'Away in a Pret a Manger'
