Any writers out there who want to meet up?
Any writers out there who want to meet up?
I'm an author and freelance journalist, and spend much of my time working at home. Are there any others living in Sydenham who might fancy meeting up for a chat and a coffee during the day?
Re: Any writers out there who want to meet up?
If you're looking for a writers' group, I'm a member of the East Dulwich Writers' Group, which has members from all over SE London. Meetings in the evenings every couple of weeks, one midweek and one on the weekend. More info here: www.edwg.co.uk. Members run the gamut from absolute beginners to published novelists. We used to have a mid-week coffee caucus during the day as well, which was more social than the evening meetings, but they tailed off after our favourite cafe changed hands and the new owners didn't care for us hanging around all morning! Perhaps it's time we reinstated it.

See that's why we need pubs.rshdunlop wrote: We used to have a mid-week coffee caucus during the day as well, which was more social than the evening meetings, but they tailed off after our favourite cafe changed hands and the new owners didn't care for us hanging around all morning!

We've tried meeting in pubs, marymck, it always ends badly
Actually, we did meet quite recently at the Plough in East Dulwich. We've realised we can't afford to drink in pubs anymore.

Despite having wound up mary on another thread, I'd be up for this.
There is a Friday afternoon meet up in Crystal Palace, but it's a bit sporadic. I'd be up for something more local.

Hi Raphael
I'm based in lower Sydenham and also write from home. I've been looking out for local writers so I'd be glad to meet up for coffee some time.

I'm a photographer first but I have written articles, mostly on photography but I'd like very much to meet up with some local writers and other media creatives.

Me too. I'm quite a nice person, off board. Honestly!
I suppose the Dolphin would be an easy option for a venue. And, possibly, the only option?

Hi Raphael and everyone on the thread,
I'd be interested to meet up with you guys during the day and have a writers chat/meeting. I'm just starting a few projects as a writer and would love to stretch my legs and mind and meet up. As for suggestions, I guess the dolphin is pretty central for everyone and it maybe has a fireplace?
I hope we can put something in place soon.

You'd all be welcome to hang out at the tearoom at the back of Alhambra if you'd like to give it a go.

Dolphin is good for me - walking distance from home!
I can do late morning or early afternoons, Tuesdays for preference. Any advances on that?

My pennyworth:
Sydenham Community Library is always looking for organisations and groups to hire their rooms and might be worth an ask. Speak to Darren or Nesrin there.
Otherwise try Joe the landlord of the Golden Lion as he has a decent sized back room that is much quieter than anywhere in the Dolphin. He probably won't charge you provided you buy a drink or two at the bar.
As someone who has run many a writers group over the years (including two based at Kirkdale Bookshop) I'd be happy to support and promote your group should get started.
Good luck with your venture!

I think we're looking at a coffee and a chin wag rather than a proper writers' group meeting at this point, but it's always worth knowing what's available!

Rshdunlop, I thought Shopgirls offer was rather a good one didn't you?

Re: Any writers out there who want to meet up?
Hello, everyone. Thanks for your interest. We are meeting next Wednesday at 12.15 pm (October 17) at The Dolphin. Everyone is welcome. It's not a formal meeting, just a chat, an exchange of ideas about writing, and a drink. We're not meeting for lunch, but. of course, if anyone wants to grab a bite, they can.
Myself and Nick will be sitting in a corner somewhere. As it shouldn't be busy at that time of day, just look out for two guys who look as if they have just emerged from their literary burrow and are having an earnest discussion.
