Set the South London Press Free!

Post by Tim Lund »

With the Standard surviving as a free sheet, and Time Out also just taking the plunge, I wonder when local papers such as the South London Press will follow suit. Maybe they feel the free sheet market space is occupied by the News Shopper, but if it was distrubuted by handing out at central London terminals serving South London and local stations in the evening, and also made available for customers to read and take away at the increasing numbers of local cafés, I think it could find a separate market niche.

For the record, this is purely speculation - I have no inside knowledge from the SLP or any other local newspaper source. Just the sort of thought which comes from cycling along Lewisham's beautiful cycle routes :D

do you really want another paper with 98% advertising 2% content Tim.
I know there is an argument for the advertising will pay for your paper but I think both papers you mention that have been set free are lesser than they once were and do not nearly have half as much oomph.

I think the standard has nose dived in terms of what we used to get for a reasonable price.

The free versions a bit like an unemployed journalist trying to get a job.
