My daughter, a primary school teacher, and her partner are looking for a flat in the locality. No joy on the private rental market. Got me thinking - how do you get your name down for one of those numerous new builds in Sydenham (Greyhound/Bell Green/Southend Lane etc)?
Would they qualify? or being local residents/not on benefits be a disadvantage?
How do you get one of those new flats?

Apply to the housing association building them

God forbid the fact they are nor on benefits should be a disadvantage . Nothing however would surprise me.
Of course people in employment should get priority over people on benefits.
I wish the luck.

They should go to who is most needy. When you mean benefits you mean long-term unemployed or those who lost their job last week?Eagle wrote:God forbid the fact they are nor on benefits should be a disadvantage . Nothing however would surprise me.

I would be appalled if it goes to a tax avoider

Someone who lost their job recently would be given preference over long term unemployed but people in full time employment should of course get priority.
It stands to reason that the long term unemployed ( in many cases no intention of being employed ) should go to the back of the queue
Surely no one can object to that.

How many long term unemployed do you reckon there are in the UK?Eagle wrote:Someone who lost their job recently would be given preference over long term unemployed but people in full time employment should of course get priority.
