Sydenham Road Barclays' Alarm

Post by Skinbro »

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker here, finally decided to create an account as I have some information that (I hope) is helpful.

Anyone who lives on (or close to) Sydenham Road between Newlands Park and Girton Road will know the desperate pain of the Barclays alarm, which has apparently achieved sentience and is very, very angry; going off at random times, screaming into the evening air like a giant, money-filled, concrete baby.

As of Monday morning, it has started going off from around 5/6am. Not good.

Spoke with Lewisham council this morning. Barclays have already been served notice over the alarm (last year), however, environmental health need to catch it going off in order for them to do anything about it (a fine, or disconnecting the alarm).

They have an 'after hours' team that works from 8:30am up until midnight/3am, depending on the day (unfortunately not at 6am). So if anyone catches it during those hours, be sure to call 020 8314 2170.

Hope this is of some use!

About four years ago the alarm at Abbey National (now Santander) used to sound for hours at a time during the evening and night. I chased around to find someone to report it to, but was passed from pillar to post between the police, Abbey, and Lewisham, and never found anyone prepared to take action.

I vowed that if I ever observed the establishment being robbed I would be across like a shot, not to foil the break-in, but to offer the burglars cups of tea and extra bin bags to carry off even more loot.

Regards
Chris

Called the police yesterday morning. Was told "there's nothing we can do about it, I'm afraid. Call the council".

But...an alarm is going off...in a bank.

There are at least 2 that seem sensitive/faulty. Barclays is by far the worst, and there's another one a bit further up (which may be the Santander, actually).

When they go off at the same time it's beautiful. Like whale song.

I suggest you video it and play it back in the bank really REALLY REALLY loud.

And send a copy to Bob Diamond ...

Thanks for this.

Went off again this morning. Called this number. Long story short - got a call from the branch manager saying they're going to fix it tomorrow.

We'll see.

Nope. It's going off right now. This is no longer funny.
