green chain walk - pothole path leading to Alexandra park

Anyone have any thoughts about the green chain walk footpath / roadway going from Trewsbury Road SE26‏ to Alexandra Recreational Ground (it's the cul de sac with loads of potholes in it)

Been in contact with the Council who have contacted the Transport Planning & Highways Development on my behalf who said:

"This area was last inspected February this year and no defects where found at that location. However I have asked our highway inspector for that area to carry out an interim inspection and to arrange for any potentially hazardous defects to be repaired."

It is surprising that no defects were found...

Being part of the green chain walk used by trekkers, walkers, visitors, groups of walkers, on a daily basis

Used by local community, mentally handicapped, elderly, children, parents with buggies, cyclists park users etc.

- Elderly, disabled, those with wheelchairs, prams, buggies, wheelie bins would either not be able to use it or find it very difficult to use the path

- looks derelict attracts criminal activity, fly-tipping, graffiti, arson, (and travellers in caravans) etc.

I want to get some momentum going and prepare a list of reasons for Lewisham council to do something about it so any thoughts would be much appreciated

Firstly: I would have thought Health and Safety reasons Greg, there are rules in place
to fight with..Have any accidents been recorded due to poor conditions?

Secondly: Value of return for Council tax monies paid to cover maintenance, repairs,
etc. Is this a quality return for Council tax monies collected within the area? Potholes,
dis-repair, etc. (Take some pics too)..

I quite like it, it's a bit like a country lane. Makes it a bit more rural in my eyes.

I saw a caravan there the other day. Reminded me of a chap I used to know near Portsmouth who lived in a tent between homes rather than being homeless. He also had goose for a pet. He kept everything clean and tidy and nobody bothered him. It Didn't look like they were doing any harm either.

Sorry, but think there are more urgent things to deal with like our high street. Although the fly tipping is not good, I'll give you that.

it might depend on who owns/manages the land.

I work for a different local london borough, in the highways department, and quite often footpaths, or side roads, cul-de-sac's etc are private land and not owned or managed by the council, so it could be the case here. However, as they said that they inspected it, it's probably theirs, or they're talking about a different section of road.

persistance usually pays off - no council worker wants the same phone call every week (or every day) from the same person, about the same problem in the same area.

If the road has not been adopted by the council, it's the homeowner's responsibility.

Which mean's nothing will happen unless the homeowners stump up the cash to pay for it.

My parents live on a road like that. My dad fills in the potholes at his own expense, simply because he can't be bothered asking his neighbours anymore.

Council and Highways would not have shown interest or visited to inspect if they had no
resposibilities for this. I take it that this is an access road to Council controlled land for
public use ie; recreational parkland..Is there another access path to this land?
