Publishing tips?

Post by sfhyouthforum »

I recently finished my first novel. It's about what happens when two teenagers from differing social and economic backgrounds become best friends and then looks at the forces that, in the end, tear the friendship apart.

I recently heard talk about crowdsourcing funding to publish novels but do not know the exact details. Has anyone heard of crowdsourcing novels? The idea is people can vote for the book they like the most and it gains funds to print.

Yes, I know people who've done that for self-publishing. Here's an example:

Also, Stephen Fry just did it, as his alter-ego, Mrs Stephen Fry, for his/her book How To Have An Almost Perfect Marriage. If you check out him / her on Twitter, you should be able to find the details.

My friend in New York funded her magazine on Kickstarter and another got a documentary made, though this is for US people only. I heard of a UK one for books but cannot remember the exact name. Any clues?

Ah, yes, Unbound is what Stephen Fry used, I just checked. Definitely worth pursuing. Good luck!
