Hasn't that been there for years? I'm 80% sure it was put in when I was at the school and I left 7 years ago...
Two points:
1) Don't speed over them: if you go over at a few miles an hour you'll be fine - it is at a school after all, (between the school and playing fields) for goodness sakes!
2) If you don't like it - don't use the road: it is a private road after all and the Estate can do what it pleases, pretty much, with it.

Not to pick this one in particular but I really think traffic bumps in general are another case of a well intentioned but fundamentally flawed idea.
I just see drivers racing between then, they seem more concerved with picking their breaking points than padestrians!
Plus even taking then at the designated limits can cause damage to certain cars, especially those with lower suspension set ups.
Seems pretty unfair and pointless.
All you can do in vote out the idiots who put them in.

I fink that some speed bumps are too high - you can tell by scrape marks on some but not others, and it's the devils own job trying to prove that a bump whether privately placed or council is responsible for damage to a car.
There are three things here, (1) a driver can try to fly over bumps if he wishes and be it on his own head. (2) There won't be kids around a school during school hours. (3) Some bumps are clearly too high for average cars let alone low chassis cars - the council has been known to lower some.
However, the recently installed ones on our road are low enough to cause no problem to cars or vans but neither do they slow down the traffic so what's the point? Maybe it's to do with council budget for speed bumps v. that allocated to potholes and road/pavement mending
College Road is different though being specifically private and relative to school times. Gates are locked at the school incidentally so unlikely to get kids straying across the road outside of school times. If there's a genuine issue with the crossing perhaps it should be taken up with those powers that be?
