No Strings Free Home Energy Assessments

Post by sfhyouthforum »

The Southern Housing Group have been awarded money by the Government to give out free Energy Survey assessments on homes in South-East London.

You can find out more from Maggie on 07513 369 635. They hoped to survey 1,000 homes but the uptake has been slow. Maggie spoke to me today and thinks this is because residents are worried they are being 'sold' something, howEver this is completely government funded and I've been assured by Maggie that there is no 'back-door sales' going on.

The surveys are free until 31st March 2012. You can find out more info from http://www.sustainablesurvey.org or call 0800 6125 313.

You can also look at the survey here: http://www.sustainablesurvey.org/survey

If you quote The Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum, we'll receive £2 for every booking.

I had a free home energy assesment done through Perry Vale ward (apprently the least energy conscious ward in Lewisham) - the man came round and gave me lots of advice (most of which I already knew, but that's because I'd read up on it), and some free stuff, and lots of contact details for further things.

Free stuff included:
energy meter, fitted to supply, with electronic display
internal letter box cover to stop draughts
bottom of door brush, to stop draughts
silver lined plastic sheets for putting behind radiators in external walls to reflect more heat back into the room
a shower timer
some tap fittings which aerate water, to use less
a hipo back for the toilet cistern to use less water

and leaflets for advice on cavity wall insulation, more efficient heating systems, solar panels (water heating, and photo voltaic), loft insulation, double glazing, etc, etc.

he didn't try to sell me anything.

I had the same with the Perry Vale Energy Savers. I was sceptical that a) it would be free and b) no one would try to sell me anything. But it was, and they didn't.

I had one done, but I didn't get any free stuff!

The girl was very friendly, they didn't try to sell me anything either and it took under an hour.

I think they had anticipated a higher demand but as is the case, people are skeptical of the word 'free'. They want to do as many assessments as possible by 31st March to reach their target. It is free because the government is funding the assessments. Please mention us - http://sfhyouthforum.org.uk/ - and we will get a few quid!

Can I add they have a short online survey (takes up to 5 minutes) and they will pay The Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum for responses to. Help us raise £350 by doing this online survey: http://www.sustainablesurvey.org/doorstepsurvey

£2 for the first 50 responses
£3 for the next 50 responses
£4 for the remainder (up to 25)

Right at the bottom of the survey there is a field that says survey reference. It is so important that that gets filled in with SFH Youth or we will not get paid.
