Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Great to see Boris yesterday , assured him of my support
I see Newt was on TV this morning still claiming he is not evading tax. He is doing nothing illegal but something which those on the left always condem the rich for doing. Am I surprised.

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
As you rightly say Eagle "He is doing nothing illegal"..
The left and right condemn each other most of the time, surely we shouldn't be too suprised
about that. This time the condemnation came from the right who also like to claim that they
never do anything wrong! So Tit for Tat really and no more than a storm in a teacup about
nothing as usual.. Both as bad as each other most of the time!
Was Boris riding one of those £12,000 bikes?

Not illegal but hypocritial.
No Boris was walking. Very good to meet him.

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
I think he might be avoiding Lewisham borough. Last time he came he ended up in the river!

I am sure Lewisham has many sensible people who would vote for Boris. Plenty of time for him to come yet
Perhaps he will re open Greyhound

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Well that was a quick response. I make a little joke in the morning and by the afternoon David Cameron is in Lewisham, launching a scheme to help people get on the property ladder. And people say politicians don't pay any attention to local forums!

If you are looking in David could you help with a bit of funding for Lewisham's special needs
children? Cheaper train fares would be nice too.
A Cinema and new Swimming pool would make the local people very happy indeed!
(Worth a try, eh!)...

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Have not seen that
pity would have gone to meet him
Is The Queen visiting Lewisham in her well deserved jubilee Tour?

Dave's gone to Dayton (Ohio) today but I have a few contacts out there who tell me that their first priority will be insisting that Dave gives us a swimming pool in Dartmouth Road by the end of the year.14BradfordRoad wrote:If you are looking in David could you help with a bit of funding for Lewisham's special needs children? I suspect that if you walk down the road tomorrow you will see a new swimming pool that is almost completed.

The cinema and other requests might be harder to achieve, but you can watch all the best movies on the Interweb these days. So sit back and enjoy the remake of Star Wars http://www.starwarsuncut.com/
Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Is the national government responsible for swimming pools , cinema's and train fares
I think not and nor should they be
Please complain to Lewisham council

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Maybe Boris could do something about the transport fares/prices then?
Apparently Mr Cameron was in Lewisham to drum up business for mortgages. 5% deposit
if you buy one of the brand new properties in an area with no cinemas, inadequate swimming
pool and expensive transport links. Maybe Michael contacts in Ohio could whisper in Dave's ear! (Pssst! Worth a try Dave!)
It would appear that Boris is up for a quick dip too, I hear that he dived in on his last visit!
In the meanwhile; Looking forward to that first swim followed by a good film, Oh with toffee popcorn too!

Fraes with an Oyster surely are about right. Any subsidy has to come from the council tax.
If you want a free spending mayor you can vote for tax evader

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
Any choice of transport currently implies a subsidy from the taxpayer. Is it right to shift it away from public to private transport considering the environmental impact and ability to pay?Eagle wrote:Fraes with an Oyster surely are about right. Any subsidy has to come from the council tax.
Remember over the past few years the increase in bus, train and tube fares has been greater than the rise in cost of motoring. Yet we cut petrol duty and offer large grants to buy new cars (scrappage scheme + electric vehicles) plus all the public costs incurred on sustaining the network and consequences which are greater than the tax take from motorists.
I won't go as far as saying its another example of the poor subsidising the rich but you get my drift.

Re: Boris in Beckenham yesterday
I agree. But a flat rate of £2.20 for a single bus journey (the paper ticket) is extortionate.Eagle wrote:Fares with an Oyster surely are about right.
Looking at Oyster, a bus from Catford in the evening costs £1.35. A train to Croydon in the evening costs £1.40 on Oyster (just 5p more for a considerably longer route).
The same £1.35 ticket can take you into the centre of London from anywhere even at peak times, as long as you don't change bus, as soon as you change bus you double your fare (doesn't happen on the railway).
If I start from Forest Hill I have the choice of 185 to Victoria or 176 to Waterloo, but if I start from Sydenham it will cost me twice as much to get to Victoria. I don't see how that is fair.
I'm not convinced that we have the right pricing structure for buses, especially when considering the possible options that would be available with Oyster. I would suggest that Oyster should allow unlimited changes within an hour of getting on a bus. I would also suggest that paper tickets are not allowed to be more that 20% above the cost of a single Oyster ticket (although it might not take you as far due to my switching scheme).
Perhaps you could have a word with Boris when you next see him.
