I have recently moved back to the area after being away for 7 years. I remember that there never used to be a decent pub in the area. I spent most of my late teens in other surrounding areas as there was a far better atmosphere. I am so glad to see the Dolphin pub has been done up. At last there is a nice place to go. It is a small step in the right direction.
I hope the rest of the high street will follow suit. There needs to be decent looking businesses in Sydenham. There are still too many run down pound shops and grocerystores/newsagents. I think we need better facilities for the town to prosper and to enable people to want to shop in Sydenham. At the moment I still pop in the car and go else where for food, hairdressers etc. I would love for one day soon to just stroll down my local high street and have a selection of nice cafes to have a coffee in. Maybe get my hair done in a nice, modern hairdressers and buy a selection of fresh, organic vegetables from the green grocers. By this I mean a traditional type not one with nearly rotten vegetables spilling out on the pavement.
Sydenham is slowly improving

OTT hairdressers by Somerfield are modern - they have 'magic finger' reclining chairs while you're getting your hair washed in a side room!
Very good with children too
And the vegetables in the greengrocers are great. Just a shame they're not open a bit later so more commuters could use them. Better selection than Sainsbury's or Somerfield and no ridiculous shrink-wrapping.
