Until a couple of weeks ago fitting solar panels used to be one of the best investments you could make. Because of generous government subsidies an £11,000 pound investment would yield you nearly £30,000 over 25 years. The subsidies for new installations will be halved from 12th December. This has knocked the bottom out of the 'free solar panel' market, a scheme through which you paid nothing and got free electricity, but the installation firm kept the subsidy profits. To qualify for subsidy you must have the installation made and registered by an approved contractor, so getting the brother-in-law to do it is not a good option.
Had it not been for the fact that I live in a listed building I would have had roof panels fitted by now, both as an investment and because I have always liked solar panel technology. Sydenham Road has been saved from a small ugly patch!
Thank you for your replies,
Maestro, Thank you for the link,It has put me right off! haha,
I hadn't thought of the fact if I move, the next resident would possibly need to want to sign up to any deal I might make.
Don't be fooled by the "Free" Solar Panel installation them ones take all the solar energy income as a way of paying for it.
You're better off reading up about feed-in tariffs and getting a people company to fit them for you.
With the government cutting the income down siginficantly next month it would be ideal if you could get them installed by the deadline of December 11 to reap the benefits.
