Is it that easy to cash a cheque in a bank these days? I thought they checked first whether you had enough cash in your account first now? Could well be wrong, I haven't cashed a cheque in years..

Our economy works on supply and demand so you would imagine that there is a demand.
It is easy to mock those who have no other options than to use these services.
Can you imagine our high street banks ( which we keep being asked to bail out ) extending thier facilities to people who fall outside the mainstream . You might want to be grateful you dont have to.

You may need it if:

a) you don't have a bank account; or

b) you have cash flow problems and need the money instantly rather than having the luxury of waiting days for a cheque to clear.

They will charge a % of the value of the cheque for the privilege.

Jury is out on whether these services prey on the vulnerable or offer an essential service for those in need - a little of both probably the answer.
