MAYOW PARK FUNDRAISING EVENT 20 AUG 2011
MAYOW PARK FUNDRAISING EVENT 20 AUG 2011
There was a great family event in Mayow Park yesterday afternoon. It was organised by a young woman to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and is intended to fund a Macmillan nurse at Lewisham Hospital. Such a worthwhile cause and such a brave woman! What a shame that heavy rain spoilt the fun. Could this be the reason that two great supporters of the park could not be there? Why were Ann Shantoak and her gloriously red bigger sister Dawn Redwood not there? Sir Steve Bullock, Lewisham's Mayor, came along despite the rain. Let us hope a lot of funds were raised. I can't speak for Ann, but there's no secret that Dawn is in fact me, so although I can say that she was there in spirit, in person I was gardening, intermittently nursing the pain of a broken tooth, and by the time I came in for lunch, it was tipping it down.IvyBush wrote:What a shame that heavy rain spoilt the fun. And now, could Ivy share with us her real identity, and give a clue as to why she sees this event as the occasion to have a dig at Dawn - and Ann, whoever he/she is? Or just PM either Dawn or myself?

Hello,
I'd just like to say that although Tim wasn't able to make the event yesterday, he did call me first thing this morning to apoligise for not being well and to get my address to send me a very generous donation to Macmillan.
Thank you Tim.
I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone one from all of our local societies and our community who did come to support the event during the torrential rain, especially ALONA from FOMP who was there looking after me until the very end when I was drenched and in a terrible way. Thank you Alona, you were amazing!
Despite the horrid downpour, we raised £849 on the day and with this and my cash made from the Just giving site and sponsor donations, I am just £300 away from raising £3000 for Macmillan.
Please note the monies from online go to the Macmillan pot which pays for a variety of services, but the monies from the day and in cheques can be restricted to directed to the hospital.
If anyone would like to make a donation, please email me on be_shail@hotmail or give me a call on 0208 355 9698
Thank you again
Next year, it will be bigger, better and far more organised - hopefully by then I would have had my hip replacement and wont be in a wheelchair.

Thanks for mentioning the donation, Bengu, but I might add also that when I spotted this event on the SydSoc web site, as well as posting here, I also phoned Bengu and suggested who else she should be talking to. Top of my list of recommendations was Alona - and it seems I was right.
