Who manages "The Wood", off Sydenham Hill?
I'm curious to find out who manages the wood between Bluebell Close and the estate on High Level Drive. All I know about the wood is that it is called "The Wood" and that the house at 16 Sydenham Hill is also called the wood.
Can anyone tell me who manages the wood?

Hi Charlie_Chalk!
Welcome to the board! Unable to help with your question unfortunately... I just thought I would mention--if you are not aware already--a group of us visited the back of The Wood recently during our walkabout on the 8th of last month and took some pictures thanks to RebelMC who lives there (never heard from him since though; perhaps he's busy). I often use the shortcut through Bluebell Close to High Level Drive then towards the other nature bit near the tunnel mouth. You lived in Sydenham long? People been dumping rubbish again? It's really bad at the side of Wells Park Road, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. I bet Bluebell Close must be built on the foundations of some other old Sydenham Hill house that was demolished; ever taken any interest into the local history?

Some rubbish has been dumped into the part below Bluebell Close, but that looks as though it's one or two of the houses that maybe linked to that. Also the point where there is rubbish is on the really steep part on the south western side. I haven't really explored past the lit path through the wood so have no idea what the Wells Park Road part is like - sorry to hear that it's as bad as you make it out to be!
On the ordnance survey map The Wood looks as though it is the smaller section to the SW and not the whole wood, so it's interesting to hear that the wood extends further than I had previously thought.
And this tunnel sounds intriguing, as do a host of other things shown in those photos. Thanks for telling me about the recent walk.

Howdy folks, yep, as Falkor correctly points out, I've been stupidly busy working (the joys of being a freelancer!) and been having some PC probs as well.
Charlie, I think you need to differentiate between "The Wood" and "the wood"; the former, as marked on your OS map, is actually the name of the house where I live a few yards along Sydenham Hill from you, and the garden extends into "the wood".
As to who manages the wood, I imagine it's Lewisham BC, try getting in touch with their cleansing department, particularly if it's likely to represent any health and safety issues.

Rebelmc - Many thanks for the post and thanks for correcting my terms!
So is "The Wood" the large house on the right as you go along Sydenham Hill - the fancy looking house that looks as though it has some fantastic rooms inside? Someone told me that it is four council flats - is this correct? Looks absolutely stunning!
I've emailed Lewisham council's environmental department about who maintains the wood so hope to hear back from them in the near future.
btw, does your username on here suggest that you ride a bike yourself? I've got a CB500 and an old MZ that I'm currently doing up. Wondering where the best motorbike garage is near to Sydenham Hill as heading up to FWR (in Kennington) to get my tyres (cheapest in London apparently) and parts from. (Charlie now realises that if you don't have a bike then this rambling is pretty much of no use whatsoever!! C'est la vie!!)

That's the one, it's actually six council flats, a two storey 3 bed flat at each end, two single storey 1 bed flats in the middle, and two bedsits to the rear.
As it happens, my username has nothing to do with bikes and everything to do with the fact that I'm a DJ (it comes from a long and boring story about me sampling "Street Tuff" for a jingle), but, I am also a biker as luck would have it; I've got an XJ900 going through the same process as your MZ and an old Z750LTD.
Trouble is, my bikes are old enough that I rarely use dealers for parts, most of mine come mail order from classic Jap specialists, or through the VJMC, but I have used Frank Dunstall at Elmers End, Ron Compton on Brownhill Road in Catford and Aye Gee in Welling, if that helps.
Ian! If you don't mind me asking, what style of music do you DJ? Have you done any local gigs lately? Do you produce tracks as well?As it happens, my username has nothing to do with bikes and everything to do with the fact that I'm a DJ (it comes from a long and boring story about me sampling "Street Tuff" for a jingle), but, I am also a biker as luck would have it; I've got an XJ900 going through the same process as your MZ and an old Z750LTD.

No problem Giles, my speciality is music of the 80s and I lean towards dance and jazz/funk.
I don't do many live gigs these days, I'm a radio DJ, which is a totally different discipline to club DJing; I would still do live stuff, but there isn't much call for what I do in this area.
I do produce and remix tracks, but only for my own amusement.
mmm... not familiar with Jazz/Funk.No problem Giles, my speciality is music of the 80s and I lean towards dance and jazz/funk.

Yeah, I'm surprised you've even got a radio show, as society is generally brainwashed into listening to only the very newest chart music or some really old classics by Elvis, Beatles, Pink Floyd or some other classic mainstream artist/group. 80s dance music must be dead, although there's always room on the airwaves for anything...I don't do many live gigs these days, I'm a radio DJ, which is a totally different discipline to club DJing; I would still do live stuff, but there isn't much call for what I do in this area.
That's criminal! get thee down to HMV, acquire an early Shakatak or Level 42 album and educate yourselfFalkor wrote:

I was into House and Acid House, but I never went too far down the Acid route, I always thought it was a passing phase.
80s music is very much alive and well, especially in radioland, but round here most of the pubs that have live DJs target an audience that would be too young to know anything but the most popular tunes.
Blimey, that must limit your listening rather severely!Falkor wrote:Has most of that stuff got vocals in it? I can't stand vocals...That's criminal! get thee down to HMV, acquire an early Shakatak or Level 42 album and educate yourself
Most Shakatak stuff is mainly instrumental, or look out for Jazz Funk compilations with tunes by the likes of Roy Ayers, Azymuth, Mezzoforte and Lonnie Liston Smith.
