Another great concert - the Aquinas Piano Trio. The Dolphin seemed full to bursting.
The Mozart B flat trio K502 was only dimly familiar to me - I must say the first movement sounded a bit thin and ordinary to me (the work, not the performance) but the other two movements were very enjoyable. Passionate and committed performance of the well-known Mendelssohn D minor trio op 49 (to which I am sentimentally attached, as it was the first chamber music I ever properly listened to, in about 1959). Then the Saint-Saëns E minor trio op 92, which I'd never heard before - sounded a wonderful work, but, to my ears, not at all French, more like Brahms.
Then four of us crossed the road for a splendid meal at Trattoria Raffaele ,to round off a perfect evening.
We we were told that the cellist, Katherine Jenkins, lives in Sydenham and is going to play the Bach cello suites here during the Sydenham Arts Festival. A must, I suggest.
