This has probably all been posted before and I've missed it,but please tell me.Firstly what is actually being built at Bell Green,I see the contractors on Sainsbury side are the same as the ones doing F.H.Pools.What are they building on the opposite side of the road? Lastly what is happening with that awful building opposite St Philip Neri school?
As an added thought maybe they could have used one of these sites for the new community centre planned for W. Park Road !!!
Building works
Re: Building works
I seem to remember they are building so called affordable housing.
Many new customers for Sainsbury's.
Would have been better to build something that might help employment , but what do I know.

Re: Building works
and they're building a new DIY store - I think it's Homebase - that will create jobs in the area.
Re: Building works
I don't think they are building a new Homebase - there was a sign up for years that said so, but that was the previous developers, who I believe went bust.

No Homebase I'm afraid.

Work is now underway on the new housing scheme at Bell Green, consisting of 156 flats, two retail units with 164 bike spaces and 111 car parking spaces.
In the next few months, planning will start on a £1m scheme to improve the Bell Green Gyratory system with improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and traffic. The five sets of traffic lights around the gyratory will be improved and linked through SCOOT (Split Cycle Offset Optimisation Technique) – a system that responds automatically to fluctuations in traffic flow through the use of on-street detectors embedded in the road. It is expected that work on the new road scheme will be carried out in the financial year 2012-13.
The building opposite St Neri (which was a hostel) is being knocked down and 'affordable housing' built there. They used to be shops. If it was done up and properly maintained it could be nice, apparently the flats insude were a good size but they were condemed due to drains. Hopefully we will get a proper bit of architecture rather than the usual dross that is built. The schemes happening at the moment are, in the most part, rather good. Impressive even. That includes both schemes at Bell Green from what I have seen of the plans. About time too!
Good times ahead hopefully.

Yes, it would be good for that area to become more than a corridor and for some of those empty little shops to come back in to use .

Re: Building works
All very positive.
Re: Building works
Hopefully the Bell Green work will help this end of Sydenham a bit.
Speaking of building works, does anyone know when the high street is meant to start?
