The Riley Family of Bermondsey

Post by R. Bishop »

I am in New Zealand and am seeking contact with anyone who is a descendent of Lavinia Riley who was a daughter of James Riley and Sarah Ann Rich of Bermondsey.
Lavinia married Mortimer Maurice in 1855 in Bristol and by now there must be hundreds of descendents if only I could contact just one of them - looking forward to a busy inbox - although am new to this so not certain I will be able to negotiate my way back to find any answers.

Hi there
My family is from Bermondsey (Collins, Canty and Walsh) and there was a large Irish Catholic working class community there - still is to a certain extent. If they were part of this community, (and with the Irish name Riley I think they would be), I would try Fr Alan at the Most Holy Trinity RC Church, Dockhead to see if they are included in the archives, or to see if he could point you in the right direction.
Good luck
Kate

also, most (if not all) of Bermondsey is in the London post code area of SE1 - so you could try the community website dedicated to that area - http://www.london-se1.co.uk They have a very good friendly forum going there, and there's more chance that someone will know, or be able to help you. They'll probably recomend the John Harvard Library.

Help - I am not very computer-savvy and am simply looking to see my posts - it has been a wee while as I have been overseas on holiday.
The last reply I had was from a kind lady - I think her name was Alison - and she had a cousin who would be able to help me with this Riley family of Bermondsey line.
I am now trying to find her message to me and am going round in circles.
I have not heard from her cousin and am hoping to connect with her again
Help please to find my posts, all I bring up is the first few last December
