Family History - Hodder

Post by Ksemmence »

Hello
I've just stumbled on this forum and am amazed by the knowledge of the contributors. My greatgreatgrandfather, Charles George Hodder (1861-1936) moved to Sydenham at the end of the 1880s. The family lived first at 43 Bradford Road, then 19 Prospect Road. In the 1901 census, they are at 105 Wells Road, where they had a newsagent's shop and he was also carrying on his trade as a French polisher. In the 1911 census, they have a furniture shop at 102 High Street, Sydenham. He is listed in later directories as a commission agent, living at 1 Carlton Terrace but also having a greengrocer's shop on Dartmouth Road, run by his daughter, Florence. I seem to recall my Gran telling me that Florence was a semi-professional singer.

Other relatives, Will and Phoebe Ford, had a sweetshop at 194 Sydenham Road, Penge. I have a photo of this shop and of Carlton Terrace and was wondering if there were any photos of the other locations or (a real long shot) if anyone knew the family.

Regards and thanks
Kim
