Post by Pat Trembath »

Sydenham Arts Festival's Summer Season 2010 began last Sunday with a sell-out afternoon of fun with Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter's Tea Party being held in the garden of Kirkdale Care Home.

The Festival season will continue with 70 events taking place over the summer, including Sydenham's Got Talent, featuring talented young locals aged between 14-25 years. The final event "Blitz", to mark the 70th anniversaryof the Blitz, takes place on 11 September.

Brochures listing the calendar of events are available at Kirkdale Bookshop, the libraries, The Dolphin, The Golden Lion, The Dulwich Woodhouse, The Hob and The Dartmouth Arms and in Sugahill, Blue Mountain Cafe and Kente as well as many retailers in the high street.

In July there will be two weekends of Visual Arts Exhibitions and an Artists' Trail - a broadsheet with information about this event will be available later this month

Sydenham's Got Talent - Auditions Now Available

Post by Penelope Else »

One of the biggest events in the Sydenham Arts Festival is the Sydenham's Got Talent show. We are so confident of the amount of sheer showbiz genius that lurks in the area, we now have two heats and a final!

Auditions applications are open until 25th June, and auditions will be held in early July. The shows themselves are on 14th, 15th and 23rd July 2010.

If you know any young people (14-25yrs), do please direct them to the website: http://sydenhamsgottalent.com.

This week is Independent Booksellers' Week and tomorrow evening (Wednesday) Kirkdale Bookshop plays host to local author Jad Adams who will talk about, and sign copies of, his revealing new biography "Gandhi: Naked Ambition.

This event is likely to be popular and, although free, it would be wise to reserve your place to avoid disappointment.

Just to clarify - this thread is an open topic on promoting SAF10 events. If we get a lot on a particular event I may split it off into a separate thread. Over repetition of a particular event is all I worry about.

Oh and the fact it going to be in the 90s by next weekend!

Just wondering what everyone has enjoyed so far in the festival and what people are planning to see? I haven't seen anything yet but am planning to check out the 2nd weekend of the art trail and also the Family Disco Dayz at the end of July! I think its pretty cool how many events have been put on this year. Hoping this goes from strength to strength!

Re: Sydenham Arts Festival

I'd like to say a BIG MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of those kind people around Sydenham who opened up their homes to display the wonderful range of art in Sydenham over the last 2 weekends as part of the Arts Trail. It was a delightful way to see the arts, paintings, sculptures, pottery and jewellery. The Recycled house was amazing! My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the leisurely stroll round the trail and were met with such generous hospitality by all the hosts. A lovely way to spend the weekend. I know that the arts trail continues in the local shops and businesses. Am looking forward to it next year. So thanks to you all. :D
