I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that the empty Cafe (Roy's) on the corner of Highclere Street and Champion Road seems to be getting worked on, seeing as it's quite literally round the corner from me.
Does anyone know if a new shop is going in, with a faint hope that it's not another, nail bar, cafe, or fried chicken shop? Or is it just being done up to sell?

Roy's cafe has a certain retro charm to it in what is probably the most charmless stretch of shops.
It's a difficult area. It gets little passing trade and the road cuts it off from Home Park so a cafe isn't a really sustainable.
Perhaps with the new flats being built at Bell green it mat lead to a resurgance in this part of Sydenham, but if the development in Deptford is anything to go by, people don't generally venture far beyond the front door of their flat.
We can hope.
There are a LOT of exciting things happening here though.
I remember when my wife and I first moved into our house on Perry Rise, Roy,s cafe was the first cafe we went into with our kids for a bacon sarnie etc
Roy himself ( I think it was Roy ) and his daughter were a joy, the pair of them always had time to have a wee chat to us and the kids.
Anyone know what happened to the pair of them ? We missed them when the cafe closed down.
