The Dolphin catches a mild dose of World Cup Fever…

Post by simon »

I remember when the Dolphin was opening how many people liked the idea of pub without a TV showing football but I note that the Dolphin has succumbed to the irresistible pull of the beautiful game, albeit in a rather understated genteel fashion.
England games are being shown (other matches on request) but you have to book a table and you’re not allowed to wear to a football shirt or hat! I think they may allow you stand and clap should England score a goal and the occasional call of “well played” and even “come on England” may be permitted.

I shall be trying to catch at least one Ghana game at the Gold Coast Bar on Portland Road, South Norwood as I did for Germany 2006, great atmosphere. However, am wondering where Sydenham’s Ivoirians and Cameroonians will be watching their country’s games?

I’ll be watching England on my TV, with a football shirt and hat on :)

I'll be watching Simon.

Infact I'd like to try out a few locals for the football. Perhaps we should do a football crawl for STF United to watch a game per pub.

Simon...that can't be true...that is hilarious....

St george's day was good enough but not an england shirt, do you think they'd accept tasteful pin badges?

I thought they might do a big screen in the Garden, that would be ace.

I remember watching italia 90 out in a beer garden in Bromley, it was fantastic. Cant think why pubs dont show games out in the open air now, some law maybe ?

Think Dolphin should add specials to their menu to reflect what match they showing.
For example : England - Roast Beef
USA - Hamburgers
Italy - Pizza
South Korea - Dog
