Ye Olde Sydenham.org.uk

Post by digime2007 »

I've been playing with the WayBackMachine internet archive (great fun) and thought I'd share some historical links to old archived Sydenham Town website pages.

It can be a bit slow and not all pictures load but most of the links should be navigable, even to externally linked sites.

Here's the oldest Sydenham Town site I could find, back in 2001:

http://web.archive.org/web/200103100657 ... am.org.uk/

Check out the picture of the Greyhound (or should I say the The Fewterer and Firkin?) on the Sydenham Past page, or the Twilights Christmas party details in the business links, or a budding BrainStorm Systems site (he he).

Early days of the forum in 2004 (sadly posts are not readable):

http://web.archive.org/web/200410300124 ... /index.php

Plenty more site history if you check out the links on the following page:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http:///sydenham.org.uk

(You'll need to copy and paste the whole line into the address bar as I can't seem to make this a clickable link)

You can also put other web addresses in the WayBackMachine search box to see what those sites looked like back in the day. It's amazing how much embarrassing information you can dig up.

No need to use WayBackMachine. The original 1998 version is here:
http://www.sydenham.org.uk/freeserve/frame.html

Bit of history here:
http://sydenham.org.uk/about.html

All the original Forum posts are still here. Just look on the last page of each sub-forum. Same for news. One of the site objectives is to be a self-documenting online archive of Sydenham from 1998 onwards.

Enjoy!

Ah, that's interesting. Never throw anything away, eh!

Still, if you use the WayBack Machine links you navigate to the external websites - Twilights, the old camera shop, Steve Grindlay's Historical jottings, Sydenham Society etc.

You should see my attic!

Steve's Jottings are now in our History section. They were indeed rescued from oblivion (with Steve's permission) from WayBackMachine.

And the old photographs were, of course, developed by Kirk's Cameras.

Did anyone here know/remember Alan Kent that used to run Kirks Cameras, or what happened to him.
