Thanks for the tip JAKES ANGEL. I do need to strike out a bit more but truth be told but (whilst hoping not to appear insular) I'm all for supporting the local eateries in preference to other postcodes. After all if we don't support them they'll go under and we'll bemoan the lack of choice, a topic we've done to death here on this forum. With the Dolphin all set to transform that end of town is starting to really get some choice.

Makepeace chemists (who probably cure more Sydenham residents than the doctors do),
I am pleased to hear that Makepeace the Chemist is still there. My father owned the shop from 1944 until 1947 and I was born over the shop on the first floor in 1945. One of the covenants of the shop was that it had to keep it's name no matter who owned it .From Makepeace's we moved to Peak hill gardens until 1949 then to Blackheath ,but moved back to Lawrie Park Gardens in 1957 until I left Sydenham in 1963. I have only driven through there over the years very rarly.Last year I took some of my grandchildren to Crystal Palace Park to see the Dinasoars.I was saddened to see how run down the park had become .I can remember when there used to be racing on the tracks ther back in the late 1950s Bikes and cars. Also there was a small 'petting farm' type zoo there. The Criterion Ice Cream Parlour seems to have gone as well. I don't think it is as nice as it was ,but then I have been away for many years .What happened to the Children Hospital,that seems to have vanished as well.I now live in deepest kent so it's not often that I go back to London.
Cheers to anyone who remembers me from the late 1950s early 60's though

Sydenham
The things I like about Sydenham;
1. Mayow Park - anytime of the year it is great to walk around the park enjoying the sights and sounds, especially in the Autumn months.
2. The Kirkdale Bookshop - where you can totally lose yourself reading good books. The staff there are great!
3. The High Street seems to cater for all tastes and some of the shops are worth a visit.
4. Slatters Bakers (now the Cake Shop).
5. I have been living in Sydenham for the past 37 years and cannot see myself wanting to move anywhere else!!
