its not as if you have to wait 20 mins for the connection at London bridge !!!
One of the reasons I've always prefered to get the direct trains from Charing Cross is because you inevitably DO end up stuck waiting at London Bridge - either because you've allowed plenty of time to make a connection at LB and are then waiting around. Or because you haven't allowed an extra 10 minutes, and you've got on a CHX train which theoretically will arrive at LB in time to make the connection, then stops outside the station for 5 minutes whilst you're checking your watch and drumming your fingers, then despite racing up the stairs, along the overpass and down the stairs, arrive at platform 15 just in time to see the doors closing and your train pulling away.

Even if you do manage to time it right, best case scenario you've added 5 minutes to your journey and haven't had the luxury of being able to sit down for 25 uninterrupted minutes to read a book or something.

The direct trains were also a godsend when I had my bike in town and didn't want to cycle home - being able to wheel it onto a train with dedicated cycle spaces at CHX and then off at Sydenham was great. Doesn't work at all when a change of trains at LB is involved.

I'm definitely going to miss the direct CHX trains.

I'm working late right tonight. Which is always okay, because I know it means I can get a direct train from Charing Cross. But then I remembered.... they've canceled them all. *sob*

RIP Charing Cross service....

I agree girl_canuck. And they were just as invaluable at the weekends!

I was on one of the last direct trains from Charing X ever. I think it was the 10.37 on Saturday night. I did feel a certain loss knowing that it was the last time I'd ever make that journey (sort of thing).
