double yellow lines down fountain drive
double yellow lines down fountain drive
Which genius at the council decided that we need double yellow lines down Fountain Drive? Most of the space for parking cars for the station has now dissappeared.
For crying out loud!! Have they not got better things to spend their money on??

As a resident of Fountain Drive double yellow lines couldn't come sooner
Twenty years ago this was a nice quiet road. With the introduction of the bus lane on the parade, the traffic light phase changes, the new roundabout on Dulwich Wood Park and conjestion charging, Fountain Drive has now become a rat run with a constant stream of traffic in rush hour.
Although the speed platforms have made the road safer the noise is intolerable....many vehicles and most motorbikes actually manage to get airborne over them despite a 20 mph limit.
Without yellow lines it would be mayhem.

I may have been jumping the gun there. The cones are still down and the yellow lines there are the ones that were there before. Here's hoping it's just tree pruning.
bladerunner-I don't understand how yellow lines stop the road being a rat run. I think the road humps just make more noise and shaking for the residents. Commuters that use the station need somewhere to park cars nearbye as the station car park is tiny and there is no bus route that goes past the station.
I'm concerned about the idiot cyclists that race down the hill not stopping at the zebra crossing. I constantly see people crossing, almost killed by the cretinous cyclists trying to zip between those using the crossing at high speed.
I live on Crystal Palace Park Road which 20 years ago was much quiter and now has a constant stream of traffic. To add to that we get motorcyclists doing wheelies down the hill. There are also the boy racers who are allowed to perform their hand break turns in the park in the small hours on Saturday and Sunday night.
I'm auditioning for the new series of 'Grumpy Old Men' next week. Anyone care to join me?

No fear davegr, you've that audition all but sewn up!
I have to agree with you about CPP Road. And Fountain Drive is much busier than when I started occasionally using Sydenham Hill station about a decade ago. I fear all roads in London could be written about in the same way though. Things are exacerbated currently with motorists seeking routes around Sydenham Road.
Depending on where I need to go (meet clients or into the office or just shopping) I use all of Sydenham's 3 stations. It never ceases to amaze me how many people drive to the station. I must say there are a lot of lazy buggers about. Fair enough if you have a physical reason to need to drive to the station (certainly not in the case of Sydenham Hill as there's no step free access)...otherwise blooming well walk.
The humps on Foutain Drive don't really do anything. They don't shake residents homes but they don't stop the idiots who race up and down the road as they always find a way around them - especially when there were 3 humps with a gap in between - drivers would just drive in the middle of the road and sail over them.

Is even that a bit over the top? (pun intended!). Shackleton walked everyday from the end of Lawrie Park Avenue to Dulwich College. And even if you are not planning an Antarctic adventure that short walk can't do any harm. Indeed you should be doing a lot more if you value your health.bladerunner wrote:If you only live in CPPR why not cycle. Just buy cheap second hand bikes..when they get nicked it's no big deal.
