Car's broken, can anyone help (mechanics maybe)?

Post by tonyade »

Hello guys. My Honda Civic is holding on to its revs too long (I have a manual gearbox). Turn the engine on, stick it into neutral, press the accelerator pedal a bit and revs too much. Funny thing is, the problem comes and goes but seems worse when there's been a heavy downpour of rain. Also, when you press the clutch in, that makes the engine rev too. Weird.

Don't want to get ripped off by Kwik-Fit, so can anyone help?

Cheers,
Tony

The first thing I'd try is to give the idle control valve a good clean. I've only ever worked on Fords, so I'm not sure exactly where it will be on a Honda, but it'll probably be attached to the intake manifold.

There's a really small place round the back of the car shop on Newlands Park Road, which seems quite cheap.

Got an AA man to look at it. It was the throttle cable. A bit of WD40 did the trick. Thanks for all your help!
