The promised exhibition of the planned pedestrain improvements for Sydenham Road between Cobbs Corner and Mayow Road opens today between 11 am and 3 pm in the former House of Curtains shop on the corner of Queensthorpe Road, opposite NatWest Bank.
It will be open on several days a week for several hours over the next few weeks - opening times should be displayed on the door.
See you all there shortly!

If you missed the exhibition last Saturday, or want to see it again, the exhibition will open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week between 5 pm and 8 pm and again on Saturday between 11 am and 3 pm.
The exhibition was well visited on Saturday yet there have been no comments on this forum which is surprising
Frankly I am extremely impressed by the amount of detail and thought that has gone into redesigning the pedestrian part of our high street and especially the safer crossing at Newslands Park as well as trees and a new roundabout planted with ivy and seasonal bulbs!
Comments on options for a makeover of Station Approach are also invited.
A decision is yet to be made about the opening times for next week.

As the exhibition's at the end of my street, I regularly pass people I know studying the posters in the window and they have all made postitive comments.
However, it's surprising the number of local people who had no idea this was going ahead, although they should have been leafletted about the consultation back in May 2008!
It's good that there is a focal point for giving information in Sydenham Town Centre, about Sydenham. This way shoppers and workers who don't live in Sydenham are receiving the true facts first hand. We could add plans, models, etc. for The Greyhound and other Town planning issues in future, should the shop remain vacant for a while.
This would encourage people to invest in Sydenham.

Apologies to Poppy who started another thread on the Forum about a serious threat posed to the plans for pedestrian improvements in Sydenham Road from a petition aimed at stopping these proposals.
This petition closed on 9 April with 415 signatures. I personally believe that there was considerable misinformation being spread about the pedestrian improvement proposals, especially about Sydenham Road being "humped". The exhibition clearly shows that this is not the case.
I think the best we can all do to show Transport for London and Lewisham's highway planners that we approve of the plans is to visit the exhibition, educate ourselves about what is being proposed and complete the Feedback form giving the thumbs up to their ideas. We should also encourage others to do the same.
Four hundred and fifteen Feedback forms showing the local community's support should not be too difficult to achieve. With the exhibition due to run for at least another couple of months much higher support should be achievable. Current approval by Sydenham residents should negate any objections (and the petition) by those given incorrect information over a year ago

I stopped by at the Sydenham Road display last Saturday and was hugely impressed by the level of detail in the plans.
Particularly helpful was that the display was staffed by key members from Lewisham Regeneration team who were on hand to talk people through the plans and what the improvements would mean for the local community in real terms. It also helped to dispel some "myths" that have been flying around - because from what i could see the plans have taken into account the needs of the local community, shoppers, businesses, drivers etc. Whilst enhancing safety aspects for pedestrians especially at key junctions i.e outside Sydenham Station.
I'm all for the proposals and particularly the fact that it's taken into consideration the needs of pedestrians, those who need a quick parking facility and even greenery has been factored in with tree planting and greening over the Cobbs Corner roundabout.
It's all good, can't wait for the work to be completed

Can I just add a couple of bullet points.?
1) Local residents - Please urge everyone you know to go to the exhibition. Judge for yourselves.
2) Approx £3.5M is to be spent on the High Street to make it into a destination site, and not just a by-pass. Traders and consumers alike should welcome this investment. If it doesn't get spent on Sydenham, the money will go elsewhere.
3) How can anyone want to petition against this ? Isn't the High St. in need of a serious makeover ? C'mon people, make it happen.

As this second thread is continuing and is now getting comments, all positive about the proposals, can I remind everyone that there is a petition you can sign to show the support of local residents for these plans. You can find it at:
