right forum to seek advice ?

Post by marc »

Hello,
Is this the right place to seek advice/help, as I'm looking for someone who use to live in sydenham ten years ago ?
As I haven't presented myself, maybe there is a forum to check in first ?
Thanks in advance,
Marc

I would think this is the right forum Marc.

Just post up some details of the person you are looking for and see what happens.
E.g. Road they lived in, dates, surname etc...

Rachel WHEELER, anyone can help ?

Post by marc »

ALIB,

Thanks very much for your quick answer.

This person is Rachel Wheeler, born in 1972.

Her mum's adress was :

1 Warwick Court
De Frene Road
SE264 ABSydenham

at least between year 1991 and year 2000.

Maybe her mum still lives there, but I can't find any phone number/indications to get in contact.

I can only remember the 6 last digits of her phone number from then.
Can you indicate me what digits start the Phone numbers in sydenham ? That could help, maybe.

Thanks anyway

Marc

can you post a photo, or perhaps her bank account details?

On a serious note Marc, I think the info you have provided should be sufficient for local people to respond to.
0208 291 is perhaps the prefix you are looking for. Maybe others who live in the vicinity can confirm..?....

Marc - you could always try www.192.com which searches directory enquiries and the electoral roll.

Just put the person's name and "SE26" as the search items...

The original BT telephone exchanges for Sydenham are:
020 8778 xxxx & 020 8659 xxxx.

Previously as the prefix was changed:
0181 778 xxxx & 0181 659 xxxx
081 778 xxxx & 081 659 xxxx
01 778 xxxx & 01 659 xxxx

A small number of lines were provided by other operators (mostly cable) and would have different 020 exchange numbers.

I was about to use 192 to try and find someone very important to me but she found me using twitter just last week. She had been following my blogs for ages but wasn't sure I was ready for contact. She's a half sister that grew up here. I grew up in Ireland. We only found out about each other 7 years ago and then lost contact upon my moving to the states in 2003.

So try twitter and facebook too if you've not already.

Good hunting.

Hello there,

Whaooh, thank you Stuart, for the exhaustive indications on Sydenham prefixes. That should be most useful.

Excellent story Paul, I hope mine will end up as cool :)

I was wondering :
How many inhabitants are there in Sydenham ???
Other thing I was wondering :
How could I get more of you site users to read this Thread ? (What would make the buzz ?? ) ?
Or just get as many as 5-a -side footie topic ... 13000 views !!
That's a lot !
If I don't get anybody with indications 8)

Marc, there are a couple of things you could do to a thread title to get people looking. One would be to have 'football' in the title.
Another thread title to attract viewers would be 'Michael jackson sick jokes'

On a slightly more serious note you can give the people looking at your thread regular updates on your progress. This will have the benefits of:
1) Bumping the thread to the top of the topics list
2) maintaining interest for those offering advice

As you already have her mothers last known postal address, why don't you write/telephone/call round? If you summon the courage to visit the current occupants of the house, you could also try asking the neighbours if they have any information. (Can be a bit daunting, but probably worth a go)

** just as a little side-story,..
I never met my real grandfather on my dad's side. He was excomunicated from the family for some scandal, prior to me being born (Circa 1965). My father thought his dad lived in a Cornish town (can't remember the name)

10 years ago my father was on holiday in Cornwall and curiosity gets the better of him and he browses through a phone book (bearing in mind his dad would be around 100 years old) and sure enough his dad is listed in the book. So he calls the number and a man answers the phone to say that "oh, I'm sorry,Mr B died a few weeks ago".
So the conversation continues (and OK, it was pretty grim that he missed his dad by a few weeks) but it transpires the person talking to my dad is a half-brother he never knew he had.......blah, blah

You get the idea Marc?

And it's not necessarily the number of views you get on a thread that matters. It only takes a few people to be able to get you started on your endeavour.
Anyway best of luck.
