Expect Lawrie Park Road to be closed for a while. A serious (fatal?) accident right outside the Hospice. It looks like a large estate car with a roof carrier hit a motorbike.
The motor bike lies wrecked just behind the first fire engine. The car is almost 100 yards further on and a blue shroud covers it and the road around it. I would surmise the rider(s) were carried for that distance on the bonnet/roof. There were about a dozen emergency vehicles with more arriving all the time. The ambulance helicopter also landed.
Forgive me but I decided not to take any close-in photos. It felt like intruding on a tragedy. I walked away quite shocked. As a motorcyclist myself it is a reminder of the consequences of when 2 wheels meet 4 no matter who is to blame.

Accident in Lawrie Park Road
Thanks admin
I heard all of the engines/ helicopters/ fire engines and figured it must be an rta.
I live in LPR, about 100 yards from the hospice. My husband has a daily 90 mile road trip via motorbike and came home half an hour ago. I'm very pleased to see him. Here's hoping that everyone involved is ok

And your point is?? Whoever is involved is this awful accident probably has someone waiting for them to come home so I cannot think that this sort of comment is in any way informative or helpful - I am sure that any proper information from a reliable source would maybe put some minds at restbensonby wrote:That there is a traffic officer's car - they generally only get involved in serious collisions.

Accident in Lawrie Park Road
As sad and tragic as this is, something MUST be done about installing a speed camera on LPR! It's insane how fast cars (and buses!) go down our road. I know that LPR is a pretty wide road, but with the bends and parked cars on both sides, I won't be surprised when it's a pedestrian that's involved next in a tragic road accident. Who can we speak to about getting a speed camera installed?
From what I've heard about this accident, the motorbike was speeding down LPR and had fallen off the bike. Unfortunately, the car involved was following quite close and so had not enough time to avoid the fallen driver of the motorbike. But, like I said, this info is only something I heard, not witnessed.
To stress even further about the need for speed cameras, as I was walking down LPR from Sydenham station, seeing the traffic backing up ahead, a motorbike came speeding down towards the scene, from my guess at about 40 mph.
I do sincerely feel for the family that lost someone today, but PLEASE LET'S FIND A WAY OF GETTING SPEED CAMERAS INSTALLED ON LPR!

And who said it was an accident? If we want to get arsey, then I'll choose to take exception to that assertion.....
I was merely pointing out that it was clearly serious incident due to the fact that specialised units had been called to the scene.... I was confirming the what other posters had suspected.
Why the objections?
Re: Accident in Lawrie Park Road
Are they going to make roads safer for motor cyclists? Remember your speedometer is not in front of you as in a motor car. Who going passed a speed camera is not going to glance down to check - and miss 30 yards of road, several pot holes and maybe a pedestrian?theoneills2009 wrote:I do sincerely feel for the family that lost someone today, but PLEASE LET'S FIND A WAY OF GETTING SPEED CAMERAS INSTALLED ON LPR!
Unlike a car which is unaffected by pot holes at low speed - two wheeled vehicles can be spun, or the pillion unseated if you hit one unexpectedly. What we need in LPR is a decent road surface, less parked cars and maybe less fortified islands that force 4 wheeled drivers to come too close.
We want safer roads. There is mixed evidence that speed cameras deliver it for the most vulnerable users. They have their place but they are not a panacea.
At 8.30pm the road was still closed and accident officers had carefully staked out the road and carefully photographing the scene. The 176 & 197 were on diversion via Sydenham Hill. It certainly looks very bad and very sad.

Please try to work that out for yourselfbensonby wrote:huh? what made you throw your toys out of the pram?commonsense wrote:And your point is?? Just your completely pointless comment - the air ambulance would surely not be involved if the incident was not serious

If it wasn't an accident I would like to hear your interpretation of this tragic incident ...... someone did it on purpose??

We already knew that - as I said. those waiting at home for a loved one to return might have been more appreciative of helpful information

Acident in Lawrie Park Avenue
I'm very sad to tell you all that today's accident left one young local man dead at the scene.
