Parking
Parking
Please ,please, be more considerate when parking in Lawrie park gardens.
I understand that i have no say over who parks where, but, Hall Drive residents and visitors seem to think it's ok to park outside peoples properties for days at a time taking the residents space outside their homes.
Please don't reply with any "but they can park anywhere" as i have said i am already aware of that, I only ask for consideration.
Re: Parking

But peeps can park anywhere on a public road, so bensonby was really just telling it like it is.
I did post just now(*) explaining things including that residents' parking spaces can be awfully expensive (payment to council for same) so not sure how many options are available since peeps will know when they park that it's outside someone's house.
(*) Post seemed to arrive in wrong thread as I had two threads open so apols if anyone read either in the interim.

I didn't want to be the first to explain the ins-and outs of were people "can" or "should" park....as Annie obviously didn't want a debate.
However, I will point out to Annie that if she has a special need that means she has to park outside her house then there are options available to her.... namely, disabled parking spaces and so on.
Otherwise, anyone has an equal right to park where they like in a derestricted area. They all pay their road tax and "own" that piece of road equally. Conversly, Annie is entitled to "request" that people don't park there...
I don't really know why anyone would resent someone parking outside their house though....

I know Mosy I did say that.
Bensonby---You are right i don't want a debate about it,just people being more considerate about their parking, I don't have any special needs, other than at the end of a hard days work coming home with the shopping to be able to step out of my car and go into my house,There is plenty of parking available opposite my house, and yes i could park there but so could these other people who don't have properties on this road.
They also park outside my elderley neighbours house, but he doesn't want to be recognised as being special needs as you say,but it is inconvenient to him, thats his choice i suppose.
End of Discussion.

I'd like to be able to park 5 minutes walk away from my house without some <<INSERT EXPLETIVE HERE> sticking a great big <<EXPLETIVE>> notice to my car....Annie wrote:I don't have any special needs, other than at the end of a hard days work coming home with the shopping to be able to step out of my car and go into my house
but hey ho
Yes!!!!
More CPZ's!!! That's it!!! Let's make the whole of Lewisham borough one great big <EXPLETIVE> CPZ
Nobody will be able to park outside their own house so everyone will sell their cars and use public transport to go anywhere.
...................................
We can squeeze another few flats on top of the 40 where the Gryehound is cos they won't even need nine parking spaces then will they?
....................................
Narrow Sydenham Road to one lane controlled by temporary lights, no-one will notice the difference anyway, and you can use all that extra space for wider pavements and cycle racks.

Nope - if you have been watching the applications for flats that have replaced houses you find completely insufficient space allocated for resident's cars. Plus many from the flats in Lawrie Park Road now park their vehicles in LPG. Plus more familiy's car ownership exceeds the capacity of garage and drive. Indeed a frightening number are just too lazy to put their cars in an empty drive when they have one!Eagle wrote:I would have thought all residents of Hall Drive and Laurie Park Gardens have garages
In the last 10 years road parking has turned this bit of LPG from a broad open pleasant road into yet another ugly and more dangerous car parking lot aided and abetted by 'planning' policies. I don't favour CPZs as that just legitamises it as a revenue earning opportunity but on-street garaging is the most horrid development in urban planning. Something no one wishes to confront?

Welcome to our world Annie! Dare I mention Peak Hill Gardens, now virtually a Sydenham station car park for all those commuters who can now access the up-lne to London from the gate now permanently open at the end of Peak Hill Gardens. Not to mention those who use the LA Fitness Gym - that makes early evening and weekends out of the question for parking anywhere near your own house if you happen to be a resident. But I am done with moaning about it - I just dont move the car any more than is necessary.
As long as everyone else is sorted out and happy - who are we, the residents of Peak Hill Gardens to dare to complain before we are shot down in flames. You will have a monstrosity built to the rear of your properties, cutting out daylight etc, and you must not get a petition up against it. You will also not complain when the station gate at the end of PHG is left permanently open to appease all those who could never quite make it to the main entrance of Sydenham station and over the bridge to get to the up line to London.

A public road is a public road is a public road. Any car that has paid its road tax is allowed on any derestricted road.
you do not own the piece of road outside your premesis! you havn't paid for it, you don't have any special interest in it, you don't enjoy any privileges there. it's not your property
You can complain and campaign until you are blue in the face as is your right. But what gives you any more right to have influence over a public road than other people?
No that is the opposite. I don't have a problem when there is a Crystal Palace event or St Christophers have a do. They are welcome to park outside, that's what cars are about - going places and having somewhere to park near the destination. Except it is filling up with on street garaging.gillyjp wrote:Welcome to our world Annie! Whereas Peak Hill Gardens is already there. We have the most important rail link, LA Fitness etc and there is little parking available because some people selfishly use the public road as their personal garage space. If you are going to get a car you really ought to provide your own garaging - not take a public asset paid for by the community for the community for free.
When my garage & drive was out of use - I easily found another to rent at a fair price so I am wary of excuses. But if none are available have the residents thought of sharing a Street Car? Public parking anywhere for that I would have thought would be welcomed by everyone. Its probably works out cheaper for many people.
Or you can use public transport!
Stuart
I have given up protesting about selfish parkers. Live about 5 mins plus from the station. 7.00 am street empty , 7.30 full up.
People should walk or bus to their nearest station. I suspect some of these selfish parkers are coming up from deepest Kent or Surrey to cut the rail fare. They probably live there for a quiet life but impose a noisy life on us.
Someone mentioned LA Fitness. Too be honest always ythought it strange that people requiring exercise drive to health centres.

I did try to do without one, honestly, and managed three years of cycling to work (which I still do) and using trains, tubes and buses weekends. Last week, I cracked and bought a second-hand Focus. It will actually work out about the same price as public transport for the journeys I make and it's a lot more convenient for trips to the dump, supermarket, furniture shops etc. Still can't help but feel like I've sold out though...bensonby wrote:After all, I, and my family, have managed without one for the past 25 years or so....and I'm certainly not a hippy. By the way, I park it on the drive
