Childcare

Post by MiniFox »

Morning all

A popular question this, but could I put a shout out for recommendations for childcare/ childminders in the area?

I'd be really grateful for advice/ experience/ recommendations...

Thanks so much

I don't have personal recommendations, but try this:

... ask around in case a parent you know can recommend one; look on noticeboards in local nurseries, SureStart centres or primary schools - tell everyone you are looking as a starting point.

And then...

- www.surestart.gov.uk is a good place to start for clear explanations about the different childcare options, how tax credits and free nursery places work, and an online link to the Children's Information Service, which lists local childcare providers
- Childcare Link is an information service set up to help you find out about childcare in your area. Lewisham's number os 0800 0850 606.
- www.findmyschool.co.uk is another find by postcode resource which rates nurseries according to their last OFSTED inspection report, and pinpoints them on a map - useful if you're looking for a place that's close to home. It works for primary and senior schools too.
- www.bestbear.co.uk explains the differences between day nurseries, nursery classes in schools, workplace nurseries and pre school playgroups. There is also a postcode search for local nursery contacts.

Good luck!
