Criteria for changes with the Thorpes conservation area

Post by coll »

Yesterday I passed a house on Bishopsthorpe while it was having its sash windows taken out and replaced with big chunky PVC windows. I also  noticed that, judging by the official looking signage out front and elaborate door buzzer system, the house could possibly be owned by the council. To the best of my knowledge, and I pass this house 4 times a day, there was never a application for planning notice. Has the conservation status been lifted? I’m curious because I was thinking about painting my front door but know that according to the conservation guidelines I need to get council approval. What do you think are my chances for getting a green light?

Coll - already spotted this on Monday - and so did a great many neighbours! Following this up with the council. Will report back.

Yes as far as I am aware this is a strict conservation area. It would be a great shame if it was changed.

Yes, I agree. The houses in the Thorpe's are beautiful and it would be a real shame for them to be changed.

When I was renting I used to do a walk with my boyfriend round the thorpes in the summer evenings. He hated the walk but I think it's some of the prettiest streets in the area...!
