Hi, i would be delighted if anyone can help me with my family research. I have traced back to a Richard and Harriet remington (rumbold- nee cripps) who both died in 1902. They lived all their married life at 197 sydenham road. Richard worked at the general post office. They both worshipped at Christ Church reguarly. In 1902, it was reported in the Christ church magazine that they were the oldest inhabitants of sydenham at that time. Richard was 86 and Harriet was 82 when they died. They married in 1843, and had 8 children.
They had 2 sons william richard and george. William (born 1852) married a mary sarah ryan (nee rogers) and george (born 1862)married a Agnes Boydon. One of Richard and harriet's daughters, was a emily harriet remington (born 1845) who married henry louis Jenny. Other daughters they had were Mary, elizabeth, edith and charlotte, and i know little as yet about them.
I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give. Any information or perhaps old photos of their address at sydenham road, post office, or Christ Church where they worshipped. Any suggestions where i could find out more information about the family would be great.
Thanks!

I can, perhaps, add a little. You may know that at least some of Richard's children were baptised in St Bartholomew's church; Alice on 3/12/1843, Emily Harriet on 6/4/1845, Mary Elizabeth on 22/3/1847, Edith on 21/1/1849, William Richard on 11/1/1852.
You gave the address as 197 Sydenham Road. At times is it difficult to work out to which building records refer and 197 is certainly possible, but the 1898 Kelly's Directory, the first source I've found that gives a number, has 199 Sydenham Road. In either case, the house is shown on this picture:
197 is the small red-brick cottage to the left and 199 is the even smaller one beside it, allegedly the smallest cottage in Sydenham until its demolition some 10 years ago. The building on the right (Solomons) is all that survives, as this picture shows:
Christ Church at the time was in the old chapel on the corner of Trewsbury Road, now converted to flats, seen here shortly before the spire was removed:

Hi Steve
Thank you so much, i am delighted with the information you have sent. I knew the children's approx birth from census and birth index's on the ancestry website, but didn't realise that they were baptised in St.Bartholomew's church. Although Elizabeth was recorded on the census with the family, i am thinking this may be Edith. Which means i have only records for 7 children instead of 8. I stilll need to find another of Richard and Harriet's children. The census gave elizabeth as b:approx 1849, edith B: approx 1851. Can you help?
The photos you sent are absolutely fantastic!! it is great to have a photo of where they lived, and also the church which they attended.
Thank you so so much for your help, it is very much appreciated.
I wonder if there is any photos of the post office where richard worked in the mid 1800's? Or any information regarding the marriages of the female children such as mary, edith or charlotte. Any help would be great!
thanks again steve
