pizza

Post by poppy »

I have been recently and thought it was pretty good (tased very fresh) although I don't think their puddings are made fresh. I ordered what was listed as a souffle and was given something still frozen.

They had forgotton to warm it up (they were extremely busy) so I can only assume it was bought in. It was not really like a souffle once warmed up either more like a fondant. But I'm not an expert on Italian food so don't know if it was supposed to be like that.

Some fresh flowers would be good too. There weren't any when I was there.

Trattoria Rafaele

Post by Crouchfarm »

Well, I have to say a visit to the new Trattoria Rafaele in Sydenham High Street proved to be a treat.

A warm and friendly atmosphere with modern, clean décor. I loved the look and feel of the restaurant and have to say that the service was exceptional.

When the food arrived it was a pleasure to eat: a larger than life plate of spaghetti (for my daughter), a large tasty portion of real Italian Lasagne (for my wife)and for me a fresh Pizza with a base to die for.

If you have the opportunity I suggest that you make the trip – Value for money. I know I'll be back

Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. It's been a busy few months setting up for us, but we have to say we've enjoyed every minute! We take all your comments on board and hope to create a cosy, friendly restaurant for everyone to enjoy - whether you are celebrating or simply fancy a quick and tasty local bite.

Also, just to let you all know that we are now opening our doors for Sunday lunch! This will see all the usual fresh pizzas and pasta dishes plus hearty traditional roasts....

Finally, our gorgeous baby girl, Sophie (now 6 weeks old!), has got us thinking that it might be nice to start a local mums and baby group - perhaps on a Tuesday morning? This could be a coffee and cake kind of thing - really just a chance to have a natter, meet new faces and perhaps swap tips and out-grown baby things. If anyone is interested please do get in touch. Could be fun!

A mum/dad & baby group sounds like a great idea. My baby is due in March - so on the look out for lots of local activities to get involved with.
Many congrats on your new addition!

Roast Dinner on Sunday.....

I really do like the food at Trattoria Raffaele, but to find a Roast Dinner in an italian restaurant will feel a bit out of place, even if it's a good one, unless... it's on a pizza!

What about a roast lamb and mint pizza? or a roast beef and horseradish one? I will find that far more interesting than yet another place to go and have a roast dinner. The Dolphin and The Woodsman at the top of the hill are already offering good ones.

I like it when a restaurant varies its menu but still wouldn't necessarily go to an indian to have the best of pizza in Sydenham, that will have to be Trattoria Raffaele!!

Congratulations on your new arrival!

Do they do takeaways? It would be great to be able to get a good pizza to collect and take home....

There's a sign outside saying they do take aways. Not tried it yet though (take away that is, had a great pizza inside), be good if they had a website so you could see the menu & phone an order in.

I quite like the idea of the roast dinner pizza. Fire and Stone have interesting pizzas and I'd love to try something different in Tratorria. Perhaps a trial tasting of different pizzas to add to the menu?

We had a quattro formagi on Friday and it was excellent!

A mum and baby group would be really welcomed, I have a 6 month old baby and have a few friends with young children who all moan on a regular basis that there are so few places in Sydenham to go with babies for a coffee, so this is a great idea, would love to come along if set up :-)

I went there and tried some of the possible new pizzas on the menu. My wife tried a potato and gorgonzola pizza which was REALLY good and the aubergine baked stater was rich, thick and too.

For dessert we had an apple flan which was light and delicious.

Still friendly, still good and the tweaks they are doing to the place are improving it all the time.

If you could have any pizza, what would it be?

I don't know if the owners have considered this, but some greenery outside would make the place look so much more inviting....

There are lots of places with outside eating areas (although I know this is currently unused) that fringe the perimeter with potted shrubs or small baskets of flowers and ivy which you can hang around the edges of a fence or wall. (The cafe opposite the bus station in Crystal Palace is quite a good example). Not sure if they leave them out all night or have to take them in and store them some where?

You don't need your own website to get online, if you want to put your menu online, just get in touch with these guys: http://www.napkin.co.uk
It is a great looking site which has always been easy, quick and efficient when I want a takeaway!
