Can you recommend a childminder?

Post by KM »

Hi
Can you recommend a childminder? I'm looking for someone from March to look after our 9 month old full time, in Sydenham or Forest Hill. Ofsted registered etc. I've ruled out the nurseries and if anyone can help I'd be soooo grateful!
Thank you.

Hopefully others with more recent knowledge will reply :)

You ought to be able to get a list of registered childminders from the council and I think childminds have to be specially approved for babies rather than toddlers as babies need special care, and more particularly "instant" care since they can go downhill fast if they become ill, so better to find one who can devote attention without being "too" distracted by other toddlers. I'm sure you know this. I worked down the list till I found those who were available and went to see them each in turn until I found one that gut instinct said was right (environment, attitude etc). At that time, childminders were only allowed one baby, but not sure what the rules are now.

I'd look for someone with a car who knows where the local A&E is unless you live/work very close to where your child will be.

If you can go to any mother-and-baby meets, other mums will probably will probably know the score. Other members will know more than I.

Good luck. Not an easy thing but a good one is worth their weight in gold on so many levels :)
