Energy Sure

Post by Chazza »

I've just had a knock at the door from a man claiming to be from a company called "Energy Sure". He had an ID card (I couldn't see a company name on the card though) and explained that he was here to "check the gas" and started to step into my house. I asked him what he was here to check exactly and he said that he was here to check that I had got my "reduction". I asked if this was an elaborate way of asking if I would like to change to a new supplier and he said no, he was just checking that I got a reduction from my current supplier. I looked at the papers in his hand and they looked a lot like new customer contracts. I sent him away, but I'm fairly cynical and I'm just blown away by this guy's approach. Vulnerable people may well just let him into their house to "check the gas" and end up being switched.

All I can turn up on Google about "Energy Sure" is that it's some sort of voluntary code for suppliers to follow when selling their products - it's not a company at all. Anyone else had a visit?

We've had two cold callers for Gas in the last 4 months, really annoys me they aren't straight about selling something. Tough job to do I imagine.

One of the plus points of living in a first floor flat is that when anyone rings on my doorbell I can just lean out of my window and see who it is. I have frequently had these pests calling, trying to make me change suppliers and I just say no thanks. When and if I am ready to switch I will do so of my own volition. The more they pester the more I dig my heals in. I imagine there are bargains to be had short term but over the long term I am of the opinion that they are all much of a muchness.

I can imagine if your on the ground floor or in a house it can be a bit more difficult - you just have to stick to your guns and keep saying no. Easier for some than others - especially elderly, vulnerable or lonely people. They will get exploited and it is shameful. It is a really despicable way to operate.

Possibly wasn't trying to get you to sign up for gas and was just casing your place for possible theft ...
