CHECK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!
CHECK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!
Yes it's me again, on about trains....
Southern train services will finish earlier than usual on Christmas Eve, some routes as early as 2000.
No trains run Christmas Day.
Sydenham will have a half-hourly service on Boxing Day, trains will run between London Bridge and West Croydon. There is also a half-hourly service between Victoria and West Croydon via Norbury. No other Southern trains will run.
Sat and Sun normal service, engineering works are taking place, check the poster in Sydenham Station, yes there is one there!
Most crucially, for any commuters, a modified Saturday service will run on Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st, and engineering works are taking place in the Clapham Junction area. CHECK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL I don't want any lectures next week after having warned you!!!!!
Thursday 1st is a SUNDAY service and Friday 2nd is the same as the 29th/30th/31st - a revised Saturday service with engineering at Clapham Junction.

Excellent links Ronski, National Rail especially - we even use that one at work ourselves sometimes, when we have enquiries from people venturing out of Southern's area.
Telling everyone else to check before they travel and get this.....I haven't even checked my own times to get to work for the 29th, 30th and 1st yet!!!

Haha, true!!! Although this morning I got the 7.45 as I was running late, and it was a 2 carriage train... I managed to bag the last seat but it was closeNickerbockers wrote:Me too - thanks again Barty!natbeuk wrote:Thanks for the tip-off about the 29th-31st Barty! I'm one of the unfortunates who have to work, so I would've been very disappointed if I dragged myself down to the station and found my usual train wasn't running....
At least we should get seats Natbeuk!
Mysti I think that your guests will be driving or in a cab. I don't believe any buses, tubes or trains are running in the London area (or indeed anywhere) on Christmas Day.
All the local train operators who run through the Southern Trains area (First Capital Connect, South West Trains, Cross Country Trains, South Eastern and First Great Western) suffered yesterday with staff shortages and the resultant train cancellations..
Probably a combination of staff pulling sickies in Xmas week and genuine sickness with the bugs that are going round (I've got it myself, hope it wasn't one of you lot down the pub the other night!!), along with the fact that staffing levels will have been planned to be lower this week anyway.

Ouch.... if you can scrape the money together I think I would definitely take the taxi option.marianne wrote:I have to get to Gatwick airport on Boxing Day - apparently I will have to get a train to West Croydon, bus to Coulsdon South and then another bus to Gatwick from there! Estimated time of travel two and a half to three hours
Its only in the last few years that any sort of public transport serrvice has run anywhere on Boxing Day. When I had my first railway job in Berkshire in the mid 90s nothing ran on Xmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day, and a skeleton service ran on the days in between! Finding a bus running in London on Boxing Day was a novelty.
