Hi,
I'm hoping to arrange access to Devonshire Rd Nature reserve this saturday, possibly even Garthorne rd, too.
Hopefully, parts of the course of the canal may be tracable here./
If Falkor, Terry or Steve wish to have a look at these possible remnants. let me know a contact on pm, cos i'll be without internet while i'm in the smoke.
otherwise, hopefully, i'll catch up at the Library on Thursday night.

As for Falkor finding another piece in Sunnybank, South Norwood! Well I never.

In regard to Dacres Wood I was in email contact with Nick Pond and he was more than amenable to the idea of a visit. This was a few years back though and he asked for some time whlist they were fixing it up after vandalism by the [il]literati otherwise known as 'the Silverdale massive, innit'. I could try to arrange a visit if you like as I've always been keen to see it first-hand?

I would also recommend a visit to the Garthorne rd reserve, (again under the care of Nick Pond).
a long stretch of the towpath is still very tangible here, and you do get the feeling of sitting next to the canal.

Did you ever gain access to Dacres Wood reserve? Shall we try to reinvigorate the idea of a 'Canal'' walk'? Moving from Sunnybank to Betts Park to Dacres Wood to the Garthorne Road reserve.

I noticed you spoke of doing it from your thread but I couldn't see any evidence that it actually occurred.

funny enough I had an email about the wood as I was asking about access, was thinking of taking some photographs.

Basically due to a lot of vandalism and fly tipping at the site they keep it locked. They sometimes run volunteer sessions there to carry out work.

I'll post here if I hear of any such sessions.

If you stand on platform tow and look over the disused trackbed, the retaining wall is composed of large dressed stone blocks that I have long thought are part of a canal lock. I'm not sure if anyone on here has ever noticed this and I do not a have a picture as yet but will post one by the weekend
