Just in case of interest there have been 2 new coffee shops opened in the last month or two and another on the way on Kirkdale.
Four boroughs on station approach - pretty much takeaway only - very popular coffee and other merchant (sells cycle related merch). They’re 4th place alongside CP, Loughborough Junction and Norwood Junction.
Kirk’s cafe on Kirkdale (opposite fox and hounds) - more than just a coffee shop as does late openings and has a few taps for beers etc too.
Then slightly up from there on Kirkdale (opposite Tesco) will be Mont58’s first coffee shop. They are first and foremost coffee roasters/suppliers based out of Brockley way. They have a crowdfunder with rewards etc to support the opening/get eyes on it etc. Here’s the link if interested: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/mont58#start
Closures:
The Pet shop is closing its doors after 50 years! But if you are a pet owner and want to support a local pet shop/prefer specialist stuff - Snuffles the dog cafe next to wells park will be stocking some pet food etc as a result of the closure to give locals an alternative.
The stationary shop also has signs that it is closing down after I’m not sure how many years but imagine quite a few!
Hopefully both will have something in their places that fills a need for the community and are successful businesses whatever they be!

Re: New coffee shops and closures
They are closing at the end of September, citing vastly increased rent and rates which mean the business is no longer a viable proposition. A great shame, since they had an excellent selection of cards.JMLF wrote: 17 Sep 2024 20:33 The stationary shop also has signs that it is closing down after I’m not sure how many years but imagine quite a few!
Re: New coffee shops and closures
I imagine it’s so tricky between rents, costs increasing and the need to move with the times which in itself costs money (eg: If the stationers had a newer different shop front/layout would it have brought more custom etc?). I feel that although some businesses appear to be thriving I wonder whether those who don’t “move with the times” or could do with a re-fresh are struggling or may do - eg: Kente and On The Hoof.
Imagine running a business of any sort at the moment is quite tricky!
Use it or lose it…
