Mentally unwell person on the streets

Post by witchesrave »

There is a very unwell woman who wanders Sydenham Road asking for help, change etc. she eventually ends up screaming at people, and randomly, into the street. She often crosses the road without paying attention to the traffic.

We have seen her in Sydenham for some years and she often came into the bookshop to ask if someone could write down a shopping list. It seems over the last couple of months, her condition has gotten increasingly worse and we are worried that she will reach, or has reached, a total crisis point which is not safe for her.

Does anyone know of a number to call, or have any info on how we might seek help for her?

We believe she does live locally, perhaps in some kind of assisted living where she is allowed to leave in the mornings.

Any help & info appreciated

Hi,
She lives (or used to live) at the large care home next door to Cobb's cafe.

I have seen her every day recently and her shrieking is quite disturbing
It would appear that the people meant to he taking care of her are not doing their job properly
The main thing is that she doesn't appear to be in any danger fingers crossed

However if she is crossing the road without looking that could end in disaster

I thought she lived somewhere with carers on Trewsbury road these days. I called police once recently as she seemed more desperate than usual , walking into road etc, but they can’t really do anything. Also not long ago she was actually run over and seen to by an ambulance. It’s very sad that she is left to roam the street

This lady would need to consent or be assessed as mentally incapable of you wanted to act in any way against her will. Ultimately if she is at risk of harm you would call 999 as an emergency service and only police have the power to compel people to do something without their consent

In terms of support for mental health these services are under significant pressure and have not got the capacity to provide the level of service you would want to receive.
