Poodle Club - free half-term lunches

Post by Nic »

The Poodle Club at 167 Sydenham Road is offering free kids' packed lunches next week during half term. This act of generosity on their part comes at a time when they themselves, as a small comedy venue, have been incredibly hard hit this year by the pandemic. Massive respect to them.

Thanks for the heads up. The Poodle Club's initiative is heartwarming and worthy of praise and gratitude from us all. (You'd think we were in Dickensian times.)

A radio caller put it like this, that most people wouldn't even let a dog starve, yet our ruling body thinks it's fine that the poorest of the nation's kids might starve or at best be malnourished. It's typical longstanding policy to expect charities and charitable people to pay or provide for what government should but choose not to.

Agree with your every word Mosy.

I think because they had so many people offering to help/donate, The Poodle Club have now set up a GoFundMe for anyone who wants to help with the cost of the meals they're providing. Any amounts raised and not used will be passed on to Lewisham Foodbank.

More info - they have some of their (currently out of work) comedians helping them out preparing sandwiches etc. And they usually do an annual haunted house fundraiser for Lewisham Food Bank, so any excess funds from their GoFundMe will replace that, since they're unable to host their fundraiser this Halloween.

They're such lovely people and it's a delightful little venue - if you've never been and are keen to support businesses who do their bit for the community, do check out their website as they are running some socially distanced events at the moment: https://www.poodleclub.co.uk

They're such an asset to the area! I'm so glad they're doing this.
