Wow! I didn't mean to start a war. It's not completely based on two shops opening that we've stopped further planning. Many factors came into play. We’re still considering some options.
As for....
Have you run a "really excellent bistro" before? I would imagine this type of review would have been up to your customers
Actually no, I decided one morning 'Oh, I have an Idea...' Isn't that what you base a business plan on? Who needs experience? Um, yes we know the business very well.
I chose Sydenham because I live here and after seeing East Dulwich change and feeling that the East London Line will bring a good change here. But I do worry.
I think Sydenham could be a great place to open a Bistro - simply because there is soo little competition and such high demand.
I went to The Dolphin to watch Midsummer Nights Dream last week and the place was packed. I was really surprised at the high demand, and looking at the High Street & existing services you would be forgiven for thinking there wouldn't be a high demand for Shakespeare - especially as this was the first time something like this was put on there. But it more than worked, it was over-subscribed and they had to put on extra showings & The Dolphin pulled in loads of customers.
I think anything that isn't following the trend often does feel like a risk - but calculated ones can pay-off. The best opportunities are usually when other people haven't already done them.!
