Can recommend some good loft conversion companies?
I'm hoping to do an L-shaped loft conversion and wanted to also get an idea of roughly how much others are costing at the moment? And with the average Lower Sydenham-sized Victorian terrace, how much space has it added to your home? In my mind I'm thinking Narnia with lots of space for a master bedroom, ensuite bathroom, big wardrobe, and second small guest bedroom/study. But I'm not sure practically how much space you actually get.
Friends of mine did exactly the layout you're talking about and it looks amazing. They paid about 40k, but that was about 6 years ago, so I'd guess between 40-50 now.
From what I understand/have been told, it's a good idea to use a company who specialise in this, rather than an individual building firm, as they will be used to bashing them out, cookie cutter style, and will know which pitfalls to avoid. With my friends' loft conversion, I remember that it was a big deal that they managed to get an extra inch of ceiling height because of some loophole.
The firms we see regularly doing this around here are Classic Lofts, South London Lofts and Taylor's Lofts. Hope that's helpful - good luck!
I used Taylors Lofts back in 2014 and got a master bedroom with a separate bathroom (off the landing rather than en-suite) for about 60k but that included a new boiler and pressurised hot water system, new roof, electric skylights, and other extras so 40-50 sounds about right if you don't go mad.
Taylored Lofts have done similar work work for us recently. They are local, a family firm, and specialise in lofts (as the name suggests) but are also general builders (extensions, new builds etc.). They have good links with planning experts to help that part of the journey. They've been doing lofts for many years.
