Its Charles Darwin's 200th birthday this year. He lived in Down House, Bromley, wrote the Origin of Species which gave birth to world shaking theory of evolution.
Charles Darwin was a frequent visitor to the Sydenham Crystal Palace and there are many links between his work and the natural history of the Palace.
A case in point is the Megatherium (below), whose skeletal remains were collected on the Voyage of the Beagle. Join the Joseph Paxton Society on Friday afternoon for a special tour of the dinosaurs. Starts at 4 pm, Friday, 25th July 2008 at Park Information Building, Penge Entrance, off Thicket Road.
